God's Banquet Table -- July 31, 2011

Sometimes, the Revised Common Lectionary gives you passages to preach on that seem particularly apt to the public life of the world or the congregation. This week's stories of God's feast both in Isaiah (come, you have no money, buy and eat!) and Matthew (Jesus feeding the 5000) seem to speak profoundly of the Kingdom of God, so different from the ways of the world, where the talk is all about the national debt ceiling. This sermon might have been titled, "Who's gonna pay for it?"

Scripture: Isaiah 55:1-5, Matthew 14:13-21
